Hi Cherri:
I am looking for a beginner sewing class in Richmond. I have my own sewing machine, but I am just starting. Can you give me more info? Do you have any classes starting soon?
Thanks.
Diane
Thanks for asking Diane.
You definitely should take a class where you can use your own machine. I have a morning class beginning on Thurs, Oct 1. We meet from 9:30 – noon.
If you need an evening class, Monday night classes have just begun, and I can do a make-up to bring you up to speed, or you can wait until Nov 2 for Mondays, or Nov. 3 for Tuesday evening classes.
I look forward to working with you.
Cherri
Hi! I am looking for a beginners sewing class, am I too late for this month? Thank you!
Hi, do you ever have classes on how to use the Singer embroidery machine? I’ve had one for two years, and have never used it.
Although I don’t teach classes on the use of specific machines, I do assist machine owners in the use of their own machines. These lessons are best taught in private lessons, rather than as a class because it’s not easy to find a group of 3-4 people who need the same instruction on the same type of machine. Please contact me and we can get something booked. It’s helpful for me to know well in advance if you have your users manual, so I can have one on hand during the lesson. Hope to see you in the studio.
Hello,I see that I have missed the beginner sewing class in Wednesday. Would you please let me know when your next evening sessions begin? Also, I did take sewing lessons when I was kid but I have no remembrance of anything. I also have my own Singer sewing machine which my parents bought me at that time. I am almost 50 so that tells you how old it is. The machine has been unused all of these years, and I did have it serviced some years ago but it’s been unused in the closet all of this time. Would this be sufficient in learning? Again, I have no idea how to thread it, etc. Thanks for your time.
There is another beginner sewing class starting on 3/22.
Another option is for you to come for a make-up on Sunday this week, and that will put you on point for the Monday night class (if you want to start this week.) Your sewing machine is fine for now. I have machines in the studio, which you can use until you know what you might want in a new machine. Or if you want to keep your metal machine. I like mechanical sewing machines.
I’ll e-mail you and send you details. C.
I am looking for a good class for my 13 year old daughter and her friend to learn to sew as beginners. One will have her own machine, the other maybe not. Which class is best for them?
I recommend that we begin an after- school to fit their schedule. If I can get another couple of students, that would
be ideal, but I would run the class for the tw of them if no one else signed at that time. How soon are you hoping to start?
Cheri,
Am considering signing up my 10yo daughter for your kids sewing camp in August. Where does this take place? Trying to figure out if this is logistically possible for me.
Thanks,
Sarah
We meet here, in the studio at 3800 stillman pkwy, Richmond…. 23233.

Look forward to receiving your registration and meeting you
Hi Cherri,
I’d love to sign up for fall classes, but won’t be able to go consistently on Mondays or Thursdays since my fiance’s work schedule is different each month. I’ll need him to watch our our 15 month old for me while I am taking classes. I could go on Mondays or Thursdays, depending whether my fiance is working or not. Please let me know if there is anyway to work this out, as I am anxious to learn how to sew! Thanks!

Michelle,
Have you considered private lessons. With the “class” option, if you miss a class, you lose that week. Whereas with private lessons, you simply book times that are convenient for you. Although classes do meet for 2.5 hours, and private lessons are just an hour a week, The private lessons are dedicated to you, so they are very productive. Hope this is helpful.
Cherri
Ahh, gotcha. I checked the calendar and I may be able to sign up for the Mon. night classes. If not, how much are private classes, what is learned and when does the next session start? Thank you for the info!
Hope you can join us. Monday night classes begin on 6/13. Cost is $125 + materials fee of $15.
Private lessons are $40/hr. We cover a LOT in private lessons, and it can be more tailored to your goals. Similarly, if you can’t come one week, simply don’t book, whereas if you miss a class night, it’s lost. Hope this helps.
Cherri
A friend and I are looking for a class in October, preferably on Tuesday or Wednesday. Are you planning any?
Thanks!
Meredith,
A Tuesday class is in the works. Are you looking for an evening class, or daytime?
Cherri -
I have a 8.5 yr old daughter and we are looking for beginning sewing classes to take together. Do you ever do that? She’s already had some experience, so actually has a leg up on me!
Sydney,
I have offered mother/daughter sewing classes. I don’t have one scheduled right now, but would be happy to teach a class, if you can get 2 additional people.
Class fee is $140/person; $280/mother/daughter team.
Materials fee also applies. It is $15/person. Hope this is helpful.
Please feel free to call me, if you have additional questions.
Sydney,
I have several families interested in a mother/daughter class now. If you are still interested, please let me know.

Hello. I know how to sew but need to learn how to do button holes and zippers easely and correctly.
Have my own machines.
Marie,
I’m sorry, but my studio is closed until July 15.
If you would like to contact me in July, I should be able to assist you.
Cherri
I sent you a detailed email to your posted email address inquiring about private lessons. Thank you!
Amy
Amy,
I’m back in the Richmond area, and teaching sewing this summer. (I got all the way to Minot, ND, then Minot was under mandatory evacuation due to flooding!)
If you are still interested in lessons, I’m teaching from my home in Goochland.
Cherri
Hi:
Will you have any sewing classes this month? Particularly, the one day sewing basics class or the 5 hour class?
ANy information you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
Tivani,
I’m actually leaving on Sat. for an extended bicycling tour of the US, and won’t be back to teaching until January, 2012. I am available for private lessons until about noon on Friday, though. Daytime or evening, hours are available until then. We can do a “crash course”. Cost is $40/hr, Hope we can do this ! Otherwise, perhaps I’ll see you in January.
Cherri
Hi Cherri,
I’m interested in learning how to sew, but I don’t have a machine yet. Is there one you might recommend for me to put on my Christmas list?
Thank you!
Sarah
Sarah, I recommend that you learn to sew first. I provide machines, then, once you know what you are going to do/want out of the machine, we can talk about what machines will provide that.
Good evening from Midlothian – I am giving my daughter a Brother serger for her birthday next week and am interested in giving her lessons as well. As she lives in the near West End she is rather close to you so I am hoping to be able to work something out for lessons. I am so pleased to find your website! thanks
Hello, I would love to take your Tuesday morning beginners class starting 11/29 however, I was wondering if you might be able to offer another 2 week length class option instead (like the october one that just finished) around the same start date? Thanks!
Noelle, I’m happy to offer another two week class. You just need to find a couple people to take it with you. Then you can make the class to suit the 3 or 4 of you. Otherwise, my classes for Nov. are already booked and have registrants. I can’t change their class. Similarly, you can take 4 private lessons on your schedule and I can cover all the same things. Will either of those options work for you?
Hi. My name is Chanel and I am very interested in learning how to sew. Is it too late to start a beginners class?
Chanel, I have openings in the class beginning the week after Thanksgiving. You will need to go ahead and pay the fee to register. You can do that through paypal. My Paypal e-mail is maidensweaver@earthlink.net
When you make the payment, just include a note that it is for the Tues. night classes, which is the beginners night.
Cherri
Dear Cherri: I live in Greensboro, NC and especially enjoy sewing children’s clothing and garment construction in general. I have a new granddaughter in Richmond and will be visiting more often. Can you direct me to fabric stores that I might enjoy in the Richmond area (especially near the West End area)? Thank you so much!
Hi Debbie,
If you want Hancock and Joanne, they are on Broad St, near Kabuto Japanese Steakhouse. You are probably looking for something more unique though. If so, there is a quilting shop at Willow Lawn Shopping Center.
The Joann on Broad St is in the process of moving, so you wouldn’t want to go there if you are coming in the next couple of weeks. The new one will be on Broad St. at Wistar Rd, in the same shopping center with Marshalls and Tuesday Morning. In Richmond though, I find that the Hancock and the Joann’s on southside are better stores than the west end ones. In particular, the Joann’s at Watkins Landing (Just off 288) is wonderful. The Hancock on southside is on Midlothian turnpike.
Enjoy your time with the grandbaby. I don’t have any yet, and envy you;0)
Hello. I received my Mothers sewing machine. I am clueless and I was interested in taking your beginner class on Thursdays. It was unclear the time of the class. Please let me know when you have an opportunity what time the Thursday class is. Thank you Eileen Hennessy
