First week of the fall classes
Tonight was the first night of the Thursday night class, and the end of the first week of fall classes. We got a lot done, with students learning to read the pattern envelop to determine their needs for class, buying their fabric and some of the supplies and learning to wind bobbins, and to thread their machines. With 11 students (what happened to #12?), we are very comfortable and have a good working dynamic.
We talked about the Janome 2139N sewing machine and what an excellent basic sewing machine it is for the money. I generally recommend that my students begin with this machine because it is a mechanical sewing machine, rather than digital and while it is simple in operation, it covers the basic needs of many sewists. It sews straight, zigzag, 4-step buttonholes, blind stitches and has several stretch stitches, as well as a needle threader. When you order it from allbrands.com here: http://www.allbrands.com/products/28044-janome-2139n-12-39-stitch-mechanical-sewing-machin , it also comes with free deliver (and they are lightening fast) as well as a free carry-all! It’s a very good deal. Generally, when my students order the machine on Wed evening, they have it by the weekend! Sold out!!!! and Discontinued:9(
Gotta go for now.
