Kids Can Sew, summer sewing camp

June 21, 2013

Can’t wait! The first summer sewing camp of 2013 begins Monday. I love working with the young people wanting to make a living with their sewing and their own fashion designs. It never ceases to amaze me how young some folks are when they begin keeping a fashion design journal! I’ve seen 8 year olds with 2 and 3 drawing pads FULL of design ideas.  How old do you need to be to come to Summer Sewing Camp? Well, you really have to be 7 or older. Usually, students range from 7-12. This year, seems like students have been more in the 12-15 year old range.

Class starts Monday. I’ll try to post pictures daily, so you can see the progress of these young fashionistas. Monday, Tues and Wednesday, we will probably all be working on similar projects, but Thursday and Friday, watch out! These young sewists will be stretching their proverbial wings and hopefully, crankin’ out some new designs of their own.

I’ll be at the Chesterfield Hobby Lobby in the mornings (9-noon) and at the Short Pump location from 2-5 pm. If you aren’t registered, shoot me and e-mail, class isn’t full and I’m able to take another student at each location. OR, there are 2 other sessions of Summer Sewing Camp in 2013. Here are the dates for all three:

June 24-28 9am – noon at Chesterfield Hobby Lobby, or

2-5 pm at Short Pump Hobby Lobby   Openings available, registering now

July 15-19 9 am – noon at Chesterfield Hobby Lobby, or

2-5 pm at Short Pump Hobby Lobby     Openings available, registering now

August 12-16 9 am – noon at Chesterfield Hobby Lobby, or

2-5 pm at Short Pump Hobby Lobby     Openings available, registering now

And the info that your parents are going to want:

Cost is $210 for the week of day camp. Students should have a $35-50 gift card for Hobby Lobby, so they can pick out fabrics and other items (zippers, thread, etc) for their projects. Camp is booked in week-long sessions. No one-day registrations (sorry).

Maximum class size is 8 students, so your child will get the most out of the session. Projects will vary depending on the child’s interest. Students who take multiple sessions, will work with the instructor to create items that both pique their interest and match their growing skillset.

To register, contact me at:

You can pick up a postcard on my sewing poster at either hobby lobby, with the dates and my contact info also.

Hope to see you in sewing camp.
