Kids sewing classes!

After-school sewing continues. We meet on Mondays at the Beckley store. Classes are confirmed or cancelled on the 20th of the month prior to your class, based on enrollment, so registering by the deadline date is essential. April class is cancelled. With us having a make-up class for the snow day and missing the second week for spring break, and I’ve got a dental procedure scheduled the third week, I can’t justify an April class, but we can do something fun in may, if you like. Make a suggestion!

Class meeting time 4:30-5:30 pm (right now, we are wavering between 4-5 and 4:30-5:30. It’s a good time to express your interest in the class and get your input in for consideration as the classes in Beckley form)  at the Beckley Hobby Lobby store. I am currently accepting registrations for the January class. Cost is

Cost: $60 for the 4-week session. Student of all levels are welcome. This is a class that welcomes students who have never used a sewing machine. Instruction is given to get them up and sewing with confidence. Registration is open until the 20th of each month. Email to request a registration form. Students will learn to sew or to progress in their sewing from right where their current level of experience or inexperience is. Newbies will usually begin with a pair of Pajama pants. Hope to see you in class.

Kids Summer Sewing Camp – Please check back. It’s too early for me to schedule the Beckley summer sewing camps for kids. If you are interested, though, contact me and we can talk about your child’s schedule and how we can best serve your community with sewing classes for kids anywhere from 8 – 18 years old.

this year. Hooray! I do have † gift certificates † and try to make them fun and attractive for the kids. Each student will need a $50 Hobby Lobby gift certificate for the week also. That will cover the cost of fabric, pins, patterns, scissors, or whatever things they need for class. Your young student DSC_0046will learn to thread the sewing machine, wind the bobbin, sew a straight line and use commercial sewing patterns to make a pair of pajama pants and then another project or two, based on the rate at which your sewist learns. It’s a lot of time in the sewing room and kids usually get 2-3 projects done. Contact me at 804.313.9717  or 804.869.7920 or cherri.hankins@frontier.com I have been teaching and working with kids since  high school days volunteering with TAG students, then raising 3 children, while teaching Sunday School, AWANA and teaching at art centers and universities. I love to share the joy of sewing. cherri.hankins@frontier.com We travel a lot for work, so please leave a message on both numbers or send an email. And the registration mailing address is WV even though the class is in VA. Each Hobby Lobby location can verify the validity of my classes.

    Hi Pam,
It’s on the schedule, but as of now, I don’t have anyone registered.
If you know of at least one other student who will take the class, we can do it.

My 7 year old daughter would love to participate in the Christmas sewing class. How do we register? If there are not enough people for a full class, can we arrange private lessons, shorter class, same basic time frame?

I’m glad to hear that she is interested.
Currently, I don’t have a “kids registration form”, but you can print the Stillman Registration form attached, and send it in, with a check to register her. She will be the first registrant, and yes, if the class doesn’t ‘make’, I do offer private lessons.
We generally have a great time in these classes.

We are planning our 2011 summer camps. We would be looking for a one morning visit where kids could make and take something with them. Would this be possible and if so, what would the cost be per child. Thanks so much. Randee

      Randee,
Not knowing where or when your camp is located, I couldn’t speculate.
If you can offer me more details, like the #of kids, ages, location of the camp, whether I pay for supplies, or whether the supplies are provided, whether you want a handsewn, or machine sewn project, I can more appropriately answer your question. Please visit the “Contact” page, and e-mail me.
Thanks and I hope to be of help.

      Wanda,
I’ve been out of state for months. I’m back for the summer. Please check out the class/lessons/workshop offerings for learning to sew.
Classes are now taught out of my home, in Goochland though.

Gabby, best if luck finding a class in your area. Sorry I’m so far away.

Yes, I offer one weeklong camp each summer month. I’ll try to get the calendar up by 2/1.
